Ever since the Labrador Nature & Costal Walk opened, I have been dying to go there! No seriously I’m not kidding, I have always been a nature kind of person and love going on outdoor trails. You know what, I should just blog about all the nature trails in Singapore. #lol

The Labrador Nature & Coastal Walk is actually made up of the Alexandra Garden Trail, Berlaya Creek and Bukit Chermin Boardwalk. If you are coming by car, drive to Labrador Park station and park at the URA carpark there. As I went after 5pm, it was free for me. Yipee! But be warned, it tends to be crowded with cars at a popular time like this.

Directions to the nature trails

Due to time constraints, I decided to drop the Alexandra Garden Trail.

Lesson #1: if you want to get to Berlayer Creek, do not follow what is said on the signs and cross the road! It is a <1 min walk from the Labrador Park station. The entrance is actually just sitting next to it, definitely not 1.1km ahead for sure! Let me be the fool who crossed the road and back just to realize this.

Labrador Park station

The weather wasn’t really kind on the day. It looked like it was having some horrible mood swing and couldn’t decide whether to rain or not. Thankfully it didn’t.

Walk past the overhead bridge and in a swoosh, we are here!

Berlayer Creek sign

Berlayer Creek

There are not many swamps in Singapore and that actually makes Berlayer Creek a gem. The only other which I can think of is at Chek Jawa, and that is in Pulau Ubin.

Photographer pose

How long has it been since I last did the standard “Photographer’s Pose”? Way too long, not since the days of my Tokina 11-16mm and that was all the way back in October 2009! How time flies!

Freshwater swamp

Don’t go into the murky waters if you don’t want a crocodile to gobble you in seconds. Okay, I’m joking. This may be common in many other countries but it won’t happen in Singapore for another million years and beyond. I must have been watching too many Nat Geo Wild programs.

Huge ant!

Emo tree

Trying to be all smiles in my attire

Can you believe it? I was in my shirt, pants and leather shoes for this walk. Surely, I must have gotten many stares from passers-by. My hair looked awkward, in-proportionately cut and growing in all the wrong places. I blame myself for not going to a hair salon. Sigh.

Xinyi and the Olympus PEN

Oh yes, this is the first time my D700 and Olympus PEN went on a date together. I feel bad whenever my partner has to patiently wait for me to be done shooting before moving on but all that has changed. She can now enjoy taking photos with me and look how happy she is!

Wooden bench

More wooden benches to rest your legs

One of the two lookout points within the nature reserve. To be honest, this won’t save you from the rain and you are pretty much helpless when there is a downpour, nowhere to hide. There isn’t really much to look at, either the animals are hiding or there aren’t any. Well, at least you can rest your legs before continuing the trail.

My tight ass!

I just wanted to show you my firm ass. Just kidding, blame it on my rather tight fitting pants from Topman, not that it was meant to be.

I know you guys are pretty used to seeing me in a tee/singlet and shorts. So this is me all dressed up:

At one of the lookout points

Notice how it is no longer the swampy waters

We have been walking like there would be no end to it. Unknowing to us, the swampy waters had became fresh sea waters and the smell was slightly less distasteful. Yep, we were reaching the end of Berlayer Creek and nearing the Keppel Bay Promenade.

Lonely house on a hill

Whenever I see a lonely house at the top of a hill, I can’t help thinking that it is a haunted vampire mansion. Just looking at it during night time would give me the spooky creeps.

Carribean at Keppel Bay apartments

Beyond the Bukit Chermin Boardwalk is actually the reflections at Keppel Bay. And then there is the Carribean at Keppel Bay condominium which isn’t fully occupied when we saw it. This is just one of the few places to stay in Singapore that has a seaside view.

Hello to Reflections at Keppel Bay!

Possible passenger entry points for boats?

From the looks of it, this might very well become a future passenger entry point for boats. But glass doors? Hmmmm …

Planted trees along Reflections at Keppel Bay

This stretch would be a great place for an after dinner stroll or jog. What could be better than the serenity provided by a nice sea breeze and the picturesque setting of all the docked yachts and ships?

Tree bark

Taken just off a tree bark and love the precise texture. It could actually become a nice photoshop pattern to use, maybe I should put it up for download sometime.

Carribean at Keppel Bay lounge

This is one of the lounges for the residents staying in the condominium, notice the similarity in it’s shape with the Louis Vuitton island maison at Marina Bay Sands?

When I came across this scene, I was taken aback by the color of the water. It was actually teal and I thought I was back at Phi Phi islands. Okay, so it doesn’t quite compare but still it was a lovely sight. Never thought that I would see something like this in Singapore!

Docked yachts

By the time we reached the end, we were a long way from Labrador Park station and were definitely not going to walk backwards. As we were rushing for time, we decided to walk over to Vivocity and take a train instead.

Those who managed to complete the entire trail deserves a pat on their back. I would however love to return and photograph the Keppel Bay Promenade at night, it certainly promises to be something spectacular.
